Wine Cap Mushroom Liquid Culture

Cultivation difficulty: High

Stropharia rugosoannulata

Includes 10ml liquid culture.

Recommended use: Use the syringe to inoculate your own agar plates and liquid culture media to expand the mycelium and generate spawn.

For optimal results place corrugated cardboard down that has been saturated in water. Then mix 50:50 hardwood sawdust and woodchips, slowly adding water and mixing constantly in a pile. Enough water has been added when you can pick up a handful and some sawdust will ball together, but water does not squeeze out more than a drop (Moisture content = 60-65%).

Spread a 4” depth of this mixture onto the wet cardboard. Then rake in either grain or sawdust spawn to the spread at a rate of 1 lb for every 2-3 sq.ft. You will have faster better results with more spawn per sq.ft.

That’s it, sit back and watch. It should take 4-6 months of growing to sustain a crop. I like to plant veggies into those cardboard spaces after spawning like peppers, broccoli, kale, strawberries or blueberries, etc.

Storage: Can be left at room temperature for up to 6 months, and refrigerated for longer than 1 year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Care instructions

Liquid culture can be stored at room temperature for up to 6 months and longer than a year if refrigerated. Grain spawn and substrate should be used within 1-2 weeks of being sterilized.

What is the difference between spores and liquid culture?

A liquid culture syringe is a culture medium that contains small pieces of Mycelium which have already germinated (from spores) and began growing. Often a Liquid culture syringe contains a nutritious liquid (often sterilized) such as honey liquid culture which the Mycelium can feed on and expand.

A spore syringe contains spores suspended in a water solution (often sterilized and distilled). Spores can be viewed in a similar way seeds are viewed in a plant’s life cycle. The difference with spores is that two spores that are a genetic match must meet (under the correct conditions) then germinate to begin their life cycle. A spore syringe will create a Mycelium network with many different genetic lineages inside.

How long does it take to colonize grain spawn?

Generally it takes 3-5 days for visible growth. At this point it is best to shake the grain spawn to redistribute the mycelium. After shaking, the mycelium with rebound and colonize the grain spawn fully in 1-2 weeks.

The product is well packaged and timely shipped. I have to wait until I yield a crop before I can report on the product. But, if the way it looks & is packaged, I'd say it is a great buy.

Great quality of all cultures I ordered except 1 out of order of 12 that was contaminated. The Blue oyster.

Good item. Prompt service. I would recommend.

Clean culture and fast shipping

Spawned out great. Showed up quick with the rest of my order. Best deal I’ve found and you can tell he actually cares about what he’s doing. Everything took off fast, zero contamination across all the strains. I’m leaving the same review on each one because it’s all been consistent. He’s got a really solid YouTube channel under the same name if you’re interested. I end up on there a few times a week.
